Basil Racuk is just the type of gent we like to feature on Sartorial Life, with his uncompromising dedication to expert workmanship, the California native makes all of his leather goods by hand in his Emeryville studio from American sourced hides.
While Basil could have easily gone the road that many have traveled before emphasizing a brand name or logo on the exterior of his travel bags, we are glad he has not. As one of the rare cases where less is actually more, this understated approach speaks volumes about what really matters, working with quality materials and the craft itself.
Although we could have cast the spotlight on any number of items in the collection from the iPad case, travel wallet or dopp kit, it’s the Voyager bag that caught our immediate attention.
The Voyager is an interpretation of a military duffel with an adjustable strap system that allows the user to hand-carry at a shorter setting, or lengthen the strap and wear it as a cross-body bag. Taped body seams are used to strengthen the bag, allowing for heavy packing.
Sized at 23″W x 9″H x 9 1/2″D this is a large travel holdall but not unmanageably so. It is available in either brown or black in your choice of oil tan leather or buffalo for $1628 and $1848 respectively. The entire range can be seen at basilracuk.com with limited offerings through select merchants such as Leffot. The Voyager is sturdy, modern and a logical way for a man to travel through the world in style.
