Highlighting significant moments in the history of British design, The V&A’s upcoming exhibition, British Design 1948–2012: Innovation in the Modern Age, documents the transformation of design between the post-war ‘Austerity Games’ of 1948 and the London Olympic Games this summer.

Drawing on the V&A’s vast collections, the exhibition will include product design, fashion and textiles, furniture, ceramics, photography, architecture, fine art, sculpture and more.

The nature of British Design over this sixty-four year span explores the tension between tradition and modernity; the progressive and Utopian vision presented by a new generation of Britons vs. the traditional values and existing structures of power and taste which ultimately resulted in changes that shape our lives today.

The exhibit will run from 31 March-12 August 2012.
