Clyfford Still (1904–1980) one of the pioneers of the abstract expressionist movement may finally start to get a little more attention with the release of Clyfford Still: The Artist’s Museum from Rizzoli.
Best known for his compelling abstract works with jagged fields and powerful expanses of color, Clyfford Still is unfortunately not as well known as genre heavyweights Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Franz Kline.
The new publication not only celebrates the Artist but as the title suggests, The Clyfford Still Museum in Denver which is home to over 800 paintings and 1,500 works on paper. This new volume presents more than one hundred of Still’s greatest works and is the first comprehensive catalogue of the new museum. Illustrations include a variety of Still’s works including rare pieces which have never been published or publicly exhibited before.
