Good design like good style stands the test of time. Sure there are some necessary tweaks that will inevitably occur to reinvent something for a different era but the essence should remain intact as a new genesis takes place.
Such is the case with the cube print card case by French designer Pierre Hardy ($145 available in August). While these cubes or blocks may not be immediately recognizable to everyone, they have have enjoyed a fair amount of popularity before. Back in the Victorian era, the inlay design called ‘tumbling block’ was found on many woodenware items most notably on boxes of the Tunbridge ware variety. This particular incarnation, made from coated-canvas and leather trim exists in a more minimal palette of black, white and grey, but revives a classic design that in my opinion, has been away for too long.
