Martin Greenfield knows a thing or two about suits, for 50+ years he’s been in Brooklyn making them for the likes of Dwight Eisenhower, Bill Clinton and Mayor Bloomberg (as well President Barack Obama if rumours are true). His work can even be seen on the show Boardwalk Empire and in the new Gatsby movie.
Gilt, the members only shopping site, has been working with Greenfield for over two years and have recently retooled their Traditional and Silm Fit suits.
The Traditional Fit (which is actually quite contemporary), had its length shortened by a half-inch, and the shoulder narrowed by 1/4″. The Slim Fit as you would expect, is even shorter and slimmer with a full inch cut in length and the shoulder point-to-point narrowed by 1/2″. With a softer shoulder and reworked lapel and sleeves the Slim Fit suit according to Gilt is for men who want to be “ahead of the curve”. What all these little adjustments add up to visually can be seen below.
