In May 2013 Taschen will release six deluxe editions of the epic work Genesis from acclaimed photographer Sebastião Salgado.
Genesis is the result of an extensive eight-year expedition to rediscover the mountains, deserts, oceans, animals and peoples that have until now escaped the imprint of our modern society. Considered Salgado’s love letter to the planet, this inspiring collection takes us on a sweeping journey revealing the great wonder that is our planet as only Sebastião Salgado can.
All the deluxe editions consist of two hardcover volumes that measure 18.4 x 27.6 in. (704 pages) and come with a stand/holder to display this incredible work. The difference with the Art Editions (A through E) however, are that they are limited to 100 copies and include a gelatin silver print that is unique to each of the editions. The Art Editions are priced at $9,000 while the simple two volume set with stand is priced at $3,000. If that still seems unattainable consider the standard edition which is a one volume hardcover with 17 fold-outs that measures 9.6 x 14.0 in. (520 pages) that is priced at a more modest $69.99 (available in April).
Sebastião Salgado began his career as a professional photographer in Paris in 1973 and subsequently worked with the photo agencies Sygma, Gamma and Magnum Photos.
