The Wearable Gatsby

While there has been considerable attention paid to the the release of The Gatsby Collection from Brooks Brothers this week, I’ve decided to take the time to focus on what I call the wearable Gatsby.

It can be very easy to get caught up in the promotional juggernaut of a film especially when it takes place in the iconic period known as the roaring 20’s. The thing to remember is that in their element all these looks work, but when taken in the context of the 21st century some of these items are just not wearable.

With that in mind I present the wearable Gatsby, three outfits from The Gatsby Collection that I feel transcend the Jazz Age and will work for the contemporary gentleman.

The focus here is the jacket, made from a wool and linen blend, woven in England at Abraham Moon and Sons. Add lighter colour trousers for an elegant summer look but feel free to ditch the straw boater hat and spectator loafers to make the look less of the period.

shawl collar sweater gatsby collection

The shawl collar sweater has made a big comeback in the past few years making this cardigan both classic and contemporary. Just eliminate the spectators.

No changes at all to this one. The one-button tuxedo jacket, made from a wool and mohair blend, woven in Italy at the Barberis mill is timeless. Combine with Brooks Brothers tuxedo trousers, shirt, etc for the complete look.
